Double mat. Each layer of matting has a white core and is 4-ply/.055” thick. Bevels are cut at a 45-degree angle. The bottom mat reveal is 1/4" wide around the opening.

Openings are cut with a ¼” overlap on each side. For example, an 8x10 inch photograph will be placed in a mat with a 7.5” x 9.5” opening. If you need to adjust the exact opening size, check out our Custom Openings category.

Sizing: Openings are smaller than the photo/artwork size so the matting can hold it in place. Most of the time, the opening is 1/2" smaller so there is a 1/4" overlap on each side. This can be adjusted up or down depending on how much of the artwork you need to show. For example, openings can be 1/4" smaller, for just an 1/8" overlap on each side if the edges of the art are important. More info can be found on our sizing page.
Inputting your measurements: You must specify if the measurements provided are the photo size or the opening size. For example, typing "7.75x9.75 opening" means you have already adjusted the sizing and it will be cut to these exact measurements. If you type "9x11 photo" then we will adjust the measurements by the 1/2' default to fit and the mat you receive will have an opening of 8.5x10.5.
